Updated 25th March 2020COVID 19 School closures,school equipment,school supplies

As a parent of a child with a life limited condition i too am concerned about recent updates regarding COVID 19 and i feel we have a strong duty of care to our staff and customers many of whom have children are vulnerable and therefore i have personally overseen the response to risks around COVID 19 with a balance of doing what's needed and doing what is right for our staff with families.

Over the past month we have been considering how the impact of COVID 19 may have on our staff and also doing risk assessments on our daily business operations.
I am please to confirm that we have put into place strict measures to ensure we remain operationally viable and we remain open and operational during this difficult time and i wanted to highlight a small sample of the measures we have put in place to protect our valued staff and customers.

As a part of the NHS supply chain we still have many hospitals reliant on our services to supply equipment and being a part of the NHS supply chain and also offering educational equipment to children we have decided to remain open at this time and have taken advice from Public Health in that decision.

  • Staff support teams now working and this will be for our accounts staff, customer care team and stock management teams, this is beneficial for staff members health and we are having all meetings using online technology, warehouse staff are working within the premises subject to strict working practises.
  • Introduced flexible working time to ensure our staff are able to care for children when the schools close.
  • Hand sanitizers on all packing stations and various points around the warehouse and premises alongside dedicated hand washing stations.
  • Each shift now contains a detailed clean so all shelves, packing stations and day to day operational areas are cleaned down thoroughly.
  • All staff have been provided access to an external medical service for advice and support if required and briefed on protocol if they or family members develop any signs of illness,we are also taking advice from Public Health England to monitor our response and manage risk.
  • We have now banned outside visitors from outside companies and visitors visiting our premises.
  • We are ensuring staff are regular and thorough with hand-washing and displaying posters and other materials to promote this.
  • Stopped all staff travel to external companies such as manufacturers.
  • Introduced social distancing at work with staff observing strict measures within the work place.
  • As things stand 97% of products are in stock as normal and we have sufficient reserve stock for a 6 month window however we are noticing some suppliers and manufacturers are having delays which may start causing impacts across the entire industry towards the summer months, but we anticipate this across all business sectors and not just ours.

Some very important information regarding online shopping:
Online shopping is deemed as safe and Royal Mail have issued guidance
https://www.royalmail.com/coronavirus

Public Health England (PHE) has advised that people receiving parcels are not at risk of contracting the coronavirus. From experience with other coronaviruses, we know that these types of viruses don’t survive long on objects, such as letters or parcels. This complements the highly publicised guidance from PHE for people to wash their hands more often than usual using soap and hot water.

Please also remember that whilst larger businesses can ride the storm ahead please take a moment to think about the smaller businesses out there and do all you can to support them in this time, this could be a simple switch from Asda to your local greengrocer or from Amazon to a smaller online retailer, the months ahead will be tough for many and working together we can ride this storm.

In the coming days and weeks our team will also be putting together some ideas and resources for play and learning during any possible school closures.

I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read this update and i wish you and your families health in this difficult time and we will be doing all we can to assist schools and families during this difficult time and we remain open for business.

Many thanks

Daniel
